NBSC CHAMPIONS READING LITERACY THROUGH SULIP IN MALUKO CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC), through its Institute for Teacher Education (ITE) and the Community Extension Services Division (CESD), implemented the Sustainable Literacy and Inclusivity Program (SULIP) on November 12, 2025, at Maluko Central Elementary School, focusing on strengthening reading literacy among 28 identified struggling readers.
The literacy initiative was led by ITE Research Extension Coordinator, Ms. Noraisah U. Radaza, together with ITE faculty members Ms. Helen B. Ajon, Ms. Jessa Escarpe-Cabintoy, Ms. Marites L. Salce, and Mr. Ramer N. Verdejo, and Department of General Education Curricula (DGEC) Faculty Ms. Karen V. Añover, Ms. Christine S. Tabaco, and Dr. Edilyn A. Culajara.
The NBSC team collaborated with volunteers from Barangay Maluko headed by Mr. Ismael Payag, Alternative Learning System (ALS) volunteers, and partners from Mission Alba, represented by Sir Ryan V. Uy and Ms. Louella Galon, to promote inclusive and sustainable reading development.
Before the program, the school had distributed tablets to the participating learners as digital tools for reading enhancement. During the SULIP activity, NBSC faculty and volunteers conducted an orientation for parents and learners on how to use the tablets effectively to support at-home reading practice. They also emphasized how teachers and volunteers can monitor learners’ reading progress online, ensuring continuity even in the absence of regular face-to-face sessions.
The success of the activity was made possible through the guidance of Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, SUC President I; Dr. Jovelyn G. Delosa, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Mr. Benzar Glen S. Grepon, Supervising Administrative Officer; Dr. Christine C. Royo, ITE Program Head; Ms. Niemfa Love W. Manginsay, DGEC Program Head; and Mr. Alven L. Gomez, Director of the Community Extension Services Division (CESD), whose support reflects NBSC’s ongoing commitment to literacy advancement and community partnership.
Through SULIP, NBSC continues to champion its core values of Responsibility, Inclusivity, and Excellence, empowering young learners and future educators alike to cultivate a culture of reading that inspires lifelong learning.
